To be or not to be - that is the question! Or is it the question? Perhaps the question is "Which came first: the chicken or the egg?" OR "Who is the greatest basketball player of all time: Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Steph Curry or someone else?" Or, could the question be: "Is homework necessary for scholars to learn?" HMMMMM…we all may have our opinions but how could we convince others to support our claims? Fussing and fighting are not the best methods but a debate is! A debate is an argument in which two opposing teams present positions and evidence to persuade a panel of judges that their position is the right position. Do you think you have the skills to become a great debater? Can you master the art of argument? Well, there is only one way to find out! Enroll in the Art of Debate summer program. This version of the program are for beginning debaters and will include learning about the basic format of a debate. Scholars will be assigned to positions (pro or con) based on topics. Scholars will then learn how to research in order to find valid evidence to support the position. Finally, scholars will participate in an actual debate judged by ESA staff as well as members from the surrounding community.
